The Odyssey(2026)
Never having read The Odyssey, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It turns out I had just watched one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen. Christopher Nolan has such a distinct filmmaking style, and it shines brighter than ever here.
I also have to commend Nolan not just for the writing, but for the directing! Especially his work with the actors. Every single performance delivers! Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, and the rest of the cast are phenomenal. There isn’t a weak performance, a real nitpick, or any significant flaw I can point to.
As for the story? One of the greatest I’ve experienced. Nolan’s storytelling is gripping, engaging, endlessly entertaining, and surprisingly emotional. Matt Damon’s Odysseus has instantly become one of my favorite film characters of all time. He’s not a Mary Sue! He’s flawed, he makes mistakes, yet never loses his bravery, honor, integrity, or dignity. This guy can flip a switch at any moment, and every side of him feels completely earned.
The practical sets and action sequences elevate the film into a league of its own. It fully immerses you in a world of gods, witches, and Cyclopes while somehow still feeling grounded. It’s only July, but go ahead and engrave the Oscars now. This film deserves every award, every perfect score, and every ounce of praise it receives. A genuine masterpiece!!!!
