Scary Movie (2026)
The franchise finally returns after years away. I went in with mild expectations because I’m not usually a spoof guy. Most parodies just don’t work for me. Comedy is subjective, but for the most part, this film lands its jokes. I love the Wayans brothers, and I think they’re ironically clever with their humor.
Let’s get the negatives out of the way. Oddly enough, I didn’t like Sara or Tuesday. Their performances felt like they were trying too hard to be funny, and it never felt as natural as the original crew.
As a cinephile and critic, I watch a lot of movies, so I caught about 99% of the references and gags. Some worked better than others, but there’s one Wicked joke that wasn’t in the marketing that absolutely cracked me up. The comedic timing throughout the film was excellent.
At the end of the day, it’s a spoof. It’s not Shakespeare, nor is it trying to be. I laughed, enjoyed the references, and appreciated how naturally most of the jokes were integrated into the story. And the constant shots at Scream (2022)? Absolutely hilarious.
