Primetime (2026)
Hmmm… I honestly don’t know how to feel about this one. For clarification, I did walk out liking the film. Robert Pattinson is the definition of a chameleon! He completely disappears into his roles, and his uncanny portrayal of Chris Hansen is performed incredibly well.
Surprisingly, the film gives a lot of personal insight into the “decoys,” which might’ve been my favorite aspect. The main decoy, Dan, played by Skyler Gisondo, becomes a major subplot that develops alongside the downfall of Chris Hansen. There’s not a single dry performance or sequence.
Now, the cons…
My biggest gripe is the film’s lack of identity and inconsistent tone. There are comedic bits mixed into awkward and uncomfortable situations, and sometimes the humor completely removes the weight of the moment. I was laughing, but I genuinely couldn’t tell if I was laughing with the movie or at it.
Which brings me back to the film’s identity: What exactly is this? A Chris Hansen biopic? An origin story about the show and network? A dark comedy? It has elements of everything, which makes for great entertainment, but ultimately keeps it from reaching the heights I expected.
