Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

For such a simple premise, Curry Barker elevates the material far beyond its limited scope. On my first watch, I noticed pacing issues and inconsistencies. This time, I shut out the hype and simply let the film speak for itself…and it did.

Inde Navarrette is phenomenal and deserves all the praise she’s getting. Through her facial expressions and body language alone, she makes Nikki both terrifying and deeply sympathetic.

One thing that stood out on rewatch was Bear’s arc. While his treatment of Nikki is awful, the film gradually shifts from his excitement and confidence to a growing sense of discomfort and misery in her presence.

Curry Barker and his team deserve major credit. You’d never guess this was made for under $1 million. The lighting, cinematography, shadow work, and sound design are all incredibly effective. I’m excited to see what Barker does next, and I’d love to see Inde Navarrette earn awards recognition for her performance.
