Masters of the Universe (2026)
Besides the Skeletor memes, this was my first real exposure to Masters of the Universe. I didn’t really have any expectations. I just wanted to sit down, get thrown into this world, and hopefully come out excited. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
Let’s start with the few positives. Jared Leto’s Skeletor is good, right? The voice, the design, and his overall presence are great. Visually, he looks fantastic whenever he’s on screen fighting. I also liked the score, not the soundtrack, the score. There’s a difference. The supporting cast and He-Man himself were all fine, but no one really stood out except Leto’s Skeletor.
I wish the rest of the film had the same intensity and coolness as the third act fight between Adam and Skeletor. The slow motion, action beats, and cinematography all came together to create a sequence that genuinely made me sit up and pay attention.
The film has pacing issues. At just under two and a half hours, there are scenes and story beats that drag or feel unnecessary. I also didn’t find the comedy funny. It reminded me of Shazam! mixed with a Hercules style concept, but the tone was extremely silly.
I definitely don’t regret watching it, but I probably won’t revisit it. Maybe I’ll check out the animated series because the lore itself is intriguing. Even after the film ended, I walked away with more questions than answers.
